Demonstrations
In aikido there are demonstrations (embu taikai) as occasions to present the results of everyday training. They are not competitions but occasions to perform set techniques together or to show your everyday training just as it is. They are also places where many dojos and organizations meet one another, and so they play a large part in spreading aikido.
In Japan, the All Japan Aikido Demonstration is held every May at the Nippon Budokan. It is the largest demonstration held in Japan, and it closes with a demonstration by the Doshu. Once every four years there is also an international gathering hosted by the International Aikido Federation.
In Korea, too, the Korea Aikido Federation holds a demonstration and an international seminar every September. If you attend a demonstration, you learn a great deal from watching how other dojos train, and above all, the experience of showing your technique in front of many people is a great help in overcoming nerves at examination time. That is also why Jeju Oseung Dojo gives extra credit in examinations for attending training camps, seminars, and demonstrations. Jeju Oseung Dojo has taken part in the demonstration every year since 2004.
